I went out to lunch and the movies with some friends yesterday and sampled fried pickles for the first time. They were good, but reminded me of all the things we fry down here that are not fried in other parts of the country. Things like okra and green tomatoes, and, of course, pickles. I think we use the food as a delivery system for the main course - batter. Batter is just yummy. It's crunchy and how bad can something be if it's crunchy? The vegetables are part of our nutrition guidelines from FDA (and being married to the food police for 25 years gives me special insight into their essential correctness). We also dipped them into some kind of dressing - that makes me think they must be sort of salady, too. Right? All in all, I think I may be on to something.
The movie. . .It's Complicated. It was funny, and I enjoyed being with my friends, but as a second wife, I'm not sure I thought it was that funny. Anyway, the movie was well done and fun.
I'm glad my new friends included me in the day and I am looking forward to having lots more of them. But, they don't replace my old friends, whom I miss everyday. Thank goodness for email, unlimited long distance, Facebook, and cell phones.
